Pick 4 single is – none
L.A. Times Value Play of the Day
Race 4: Sapphire Silk. Sometimes in racing it is as much about what horse a jockey choses than what a handicapper sees on paper. Today that horse is Sapphire Silk. The jockey in question is Umberto Rispoli. In the debut race for trainer Jeff Mullins
Silk was positioned nicely going into the turn and looked ready to unleash a late run but had to be steadied very hard to stop from running into a wall of horses just ahead. Umberto rightfully eased the horse. No gap in works they drop the horse for today’s race. So regarding the jockey angle I mentioned. The favorite here is Trouville whom Umberto rode in the last two races. Flavian Prat is named for the race today. I am inclined to think Umberto had the choice here and decided to stay with Silk. The 8-1 morning line is a nice value proposition for us today. Umberto rode Troville great in the last two starts and many punters may assume he was kicked from the horse and discount the horse he is riding today. That should give us added value!
Value Plays for Today:
Race 7: Big City Bane Rosario rides this horse when he is town for big races days. He won in March and he ran 2nd in January. 8-1 is great when he wins again today!
Today’s Race 6 Late Pick 4 will cost $45 with horses listed in preference
Race 8: 9,8,6
Race 9: 11,8,3,5,1
Race 6: 4,2
Race 7: 1,5,10 (7)*
Typos happen and I do my best not to make them. Always read through my writeups to make sure the posted numbers are correct. I list Pick 4, Pick 5 selections and also a listing of all plays for each race. If there are any differences, please let me know.
*Horses listed in brackets are for added coverage if wanted and for exotics.
For races where I only have one or two selections I usually like to KEY the top choice with the second choice and an outside for trifectas.
When I have three horses selected in a Pick 4 or Pick 5 consider them for Trifecta boxes and for superfecta boxes use the 3 selections with the highest priced horse with good form or top tier jockeys riding, especially if they give a price. Rolling Pick 3 and doubles using selections.
