Santa Anita 10-08-2016 Full Card

I want to curse right now but I won’t. Thanks to another horrible ride by Smith in race 6 we were in fantastic position in the last leg with our 25-1 longshot of the day surging to the wire to lose by a nose – that Pick 4 for $13.50 was paying almost $3k! Wahine Warrior should have won that race by lengths but was put in a bad position throughout. Watch that one for the next race for sure, hopefully with a jockey upgrade! We connected on 2 longshots yesterday with Blue Tone at 11-1 and Wahine Warrior at 25-1 to ease the pain slightly but I can tell you now this is what it was like before we went on that hot streak at Del Mar! Any time you have a chance to win $3k with a meager $13 bet its a good day, win and its fantastic!

This is a very, very hard card today but that also means huge payouts are almost a certainty if we can connect again! We have hit the Pick 5 and been 4 of 5 on the Pick 5 and 3 of 4 in a few Pick 4’s now so the handicapping is right there. Today feels good!

Pick 4 “I need a Single” is going to be in race 9 Westmont. I found this race a very tough one to handicap but Westmont has early speed, a bullet work 2 weeks ago and Perez is 2 for 4 with this trainer. If I wanted to spend more cash on the Pick 4 I would again play the jockey angle and use the Prat/Bejarano horses both of which are trained by Miyadi. Using them takes the ticket to $40.50 which is what I will do. Update: The Bejarano Miyadi horse was scratched. Both the Miyadi horses are owned by Tommy Town who also race #6 Enter the Code who posted a sharp work last week so we will use him

Best Bets: In the Pick 5 I am singling in race 4 Lord Nelson and we can thank the racing secretary for giving us a single in the sequence because we need it for spreading! Nothing but bullet works over the last few weeks. I spread in race 1 and that may not be enough coverage but I don’t want a large ticket. I found race 3 the most difficult to handicap so I am playing the jockeys and using the Bejarano and Prat horses. Prat worked the horse he is riding in the mornings adding extra confidence there

Longshots of the Day: Win/place bets on these

Race 1: C J’s Fire, we need a price for Da Hill and this horse has led gate to deep stretch over the last 2 back east and from this post will try the same

Race 2: Rosa Brava, I will always take a close look at Prat bombs especially with Mandella as they hit 38% for a positive ROI, 2nd start off a year rest, sharp work big price

Race 5: Salsita, this race is won by the fav 13% only and by a horse over 10-1 22%, seeking 3rd straight win for red-hot Chantal, we get 12-1

Race 6: Evolve, Chantal/Belvoir 44% won last race moving up. Mostly Cloudy is another here at 8-1 who won debut and put in a sharp workout

Race 7: Unbridled Rocket, ran second last out, sharp workout last week, jockey/trainer are 29% win, 57% in da money for a big ROI

Race 10: Irish Dame, 30-1 crazy price to use but another Chantal and Belvoir horse and they are 44% and its on Da Hill where bombs are common and the works are as good as the 5/2 fav

Today’s Late Pick 4 will cost $40.50 with horses listed in preference

Horses listed in brackets are for added coverage if wanted and for exotics.

For races where I only have one or two selections I usually like to KEY the top choice  with the second choice and an outside for trifectas.

When I have three horses selected in a Pick 4 or Pick 5 consider them for Trifecta boxes and for superfecta boxes use the 3 selections with the highest priced horse with good form or top tier jockeys riding, especially if they give a price. Rolling Pick 3 and doubles using selections.
