It is great to be back at Santa Anita. The summer meet at Del Mar was fantastic for us with numerous large Pick 4 and Pick 5 payoffs as well as some very nice longshot plays! I have changed up the set up for my write-ups so I hope you profit from them! We get to see what the new turf course is like in the 1st race today. It will likely take a few days to see how it plays but it sure is nice to have turf races back! Today of the 9 races three are on Da Hill!

Pick 4 “I need a Single” in Hunt in race 6 on Da Hill hard to argue against singling this dominant horse on the Hillside course but there are some caveats to this race…
The first leg of the Pick 4 is a G3 on Da Hill and from 21 races the favorite has won 3 times and a price over 10-1 has won 10! We scored a huge win in a stakes race at Del Mar with Ruis and Garcia and they race War Envoy here. 2nd start of the layoff there is not much else to like other than the tandem stats. On the other hand Richard’s Boy has ripped off 3 sharp works in a row and Espinoza, Miller, Rockingham are a potent trio and this meets the 10-1 criteria and I do like seeing multiple fast works on a price horse.
Best Bets: In the Pick 5 I am making a stand in race 5 with Touching Rainbows, hot jockey Prat, sharp workout last week and the cutback in distance seems ideal, the ticket was going to be too much even for opening day so this is where I took the stand
Longshots of the Day: Win/place bets on these
Race 1: Lauren’s Ladd, D’Amato is 31% blinkers off, horse is 1 for one on the Hill, Baze was heating up at Los Al
Race 3: Star Of Quality, Prat on a price horse is always worth looking at, ran on too late from 8th in the stretch 3 wide to finish 3rd, Prat has her positioned better this time 4win
Race 6: See above for Richard’s Boy and War Envoy, I will use both in the Pick 4 but leaning to Richard’s Boy as top choice, he has 2 wins and a second from 4 Hill races
Race 9: So Sweetitiz, Same Hillside stats as race 6, Prat riding at 8-1 hopefully we get higher, four sharp workouts in a row and all were best of the day, seeking 4th win in a row and has 2 wins and a second from 3 Hill starts

For races where I only have one or two selections I usually like to KEY the top choice with the second choice and an outside for trifectas.
When I have three horses selected in a Pick 4 or Pick 5 consider them for Trifecta boxes and for superfecta boxes use the 3 selections with the highest priced horse with good form or top tier jockeys riding, especially if they give a price. Rolling Pick 3 and doubles using selections.
