Well we got the win on our Best Bet to start the first race but in the 1st leg of the Pick 4
our #3 Gouyan, who won the race, was disqualified for bumping on the turn. We were
good in the all ticket till an awful ride cost us the single. 3/4 yet again! Let’s see if we can
get the win today! In reviewing what I have written below I have the phrase “how do you
not use” a lot so perhaps today is the day!
The Pick 4 starts off in race 6 today, a mile on turf. The Desormeaux brothers who I love
to bet on, but who have been a tad cold lately, bring us #3 Danette. Danette last ran in a
Grade 2 and now plunges in class. Tyler Baze jumps on #5 Housemaker, an Irish filly
who has yet to win but Baze plus Irish you all know I am going to use! The favorite wins
this race 33% of the time and today that is #8, Paulina’s Love with my dad’s favorite
jockey Gary Stevens riding.
In race 7 the #1 K Thirty Eight jumps out. He won his last with Solis riding off a one year
break. #3 Frensham drops to a level he last won at in March and he posted a sharp
workout last week. #8 Rule He Will went gate-to-wire here two weeks ago starting
jockey Baze’s hot streak. Back quickly and moving up in class but how do you not use!
In race 8 how do you not back #1 Big John B. He was on fire last summer and fall before
faltering at the Breeders Cup. Big money race with Mike Smith equals no brainer. I just
hope Mike does not have him sitting at Del Mar going into the turn this time! Trainer
D’Amato also enters #8 Abbey Vale who moves up in class after winning his last. I feel
the need to use both D’Amato horses here but think Smith gets the job done today.
In the last leg, a race won by the favorite 52% of the time (81% in the money and a flat
bet profit!) #3 Olympic Luck is for sure a play. A sharp workout on April 17 for a trainer
winning 30% maiden special weight makes this a possible single. I am, however also
going to use #5 Jean Edward who has finished second 4 of 5, posted a sharp workout the
same day as the favorite and whose jockey is heating up.
Today’s Pick 4 bet will cost $18
Our BEST BET Bentley’s Gone with Tyler Baze on won EASY yesterday to start off the
Spring Meet with a win! Our $5 win/place paid $19.50. Today’s BEST BET is in race 2,
the #1 Kafister with Mike Smith riding. This horse LOVES this track, going 8 for 17, and
seeking his third straight win. $10 win/place.
