Today’s Pick 4 looks very doable so let’s see if we can get a piece! Keep in mind however that over the next few days temperatures are expected to soar to the 90’s in Southern California. This could impact racing so keep that in mind when handicapping.
The 1st leg brings us #4 Wicked Finance. Wicked finished second behind Opsec in his last who has since come back to win. #6 Native Ride also exits that same race finishing third. A sharp workout on March 7th for a jockey/trainer who have won 2/3 in the last 14 days I will use. The possible favorite at post time is #3 To the Bar but I just don’t like him. If the race was 6 furlongs perhaps. Instead I am going to go with #1 King Of Jazz who has some nice workouts recently. This will be his first start since April of 2014 so we get a price. Jockey Desormeaux also has 4 wins and 3 seconds from 15 starts in the last week.
In the second leg there are a few horses who leading jockey Bejarano has ridden many times but he sticks to the morning line favorite #6 Zulu’s Petals and so will I. She finished second in her last race after a layoff of almost a year. She has also never been out of the money in 7 starts. A possible single for some but I will use plus a backup. #7 Seeking Shamrocks set a blistering half mile in her last race of 44.5 before tiring to third. She stretches out to this 7 furlong distance today and if jockey Gryder can temper the speed early she could be a candidate to steal this one. A sharp workout last week adds to the appeal. My price horse in this leg is the #4 Swissarella. I just like this horse.
Mike Smith has one ride today and that is the #2 Pound Peace in race 7. Pound has not raced since December 2013 however and the Euro invaders have been way more miss than hit these past few months. Paddy Gallagher has yet to get a win at Santa Anita but he does own a 21% ship to US win stat. Paddy’s day is just around the corner so why not! Stevens rides #6 Boozer who is stretching out after racing against better horses. I am also going to use the #8 Home School. Desormeaux and O’Neill are 5 for 12 for 41% so far with a win in their last at a lower level.
#5 Starzilla off a second and third place finish at this level is the logical favorite in the last race. However this is still not enough to single. Bejarano teams up with Baltas on #1 Italian Jumper. They are 8 for 19 for a 42% win rate. Baltas is winning 26% at this level and the rail is winning 19% so I will use. A sharp workout last week for #10 Weekendwithbernie who moved down to this class level in his last where he finished third gives us a price option here too.
