Well the big bomb trend in the first leg of the Pick 4 continued yesterday but unfortunately it was not our choice this time around. Our big price horse was surging in the stretch but alas no cigar. Today is the first day of March so perhaps we will see some nice Irish luck. We’ve got the Irish weather as a start!
#11 Faith Proof is the possible even money favorite in leg one today. She is 5 for 6 and also moving DOWN in class to the $8k level despite winning her last at $14k 11 days ago. This should be a single but the warnings signs are many here. 5 of 6. Won last race much higher yet dropping like a hot potato? A run for the money by her owners with a move to scare of would be claimers or they don’t care if she’s claimed? I will use but there is a lot of doubt here making a single risky. An interesting horse here that you normally would not see me throw in is the #13 Crazy About Him. She is a Los Al nighttime sprinter who has won 4 in a row at 4.5 furlongs and she runs today for 5 1/2. #2 It’s Aine has scratched or I would be using her in this race. Instead I will use #4 Nothing To Hide who ran second behind It’s Aine in her last and has posted some good workouts in the last two weeks. Bombs have been winning the first leg lately so I’m going to throw another Los Al night time racer in here, #13 Versye. She is 1-4 here and a big Hail Mary price.
This leg is on turf today but depending on the rain could move to dirt. In the second leg we have a first time British invader, the #9 Housemaker who legs up Bejarano after posting 2 seconds in 2 starts overseas. She has not raced since September however and the Irish and British invaders have been very inconsistent for over a year now. The Desormeaux brothers and their 39% win rate team up on #6 Danette. She finished second here Jan 2 and ran third in a Grade 1 last year. Both these horses last raced on dirt so a move to the dirt track may not see them scratch.
Race #8 brings us the morning line favorite #3 Head South who has won 2 of 3 and won convincingly in his last off a layoff. #6 Memphis is a horse I was looking closely at using BUT Desormeaux who is Hess Jr’s main man decided to stick with the favorite and hops off here. Talamo jumps on which is good but. I will use only because Hess and Talamo team up again in the next leg so I may be reading too much into the jockey change. Also Talamo is due to heat up. I am also going to use #7 Missing Groom who Jerry ships down from Golden Gate for this. Dropping in class and shortening up for a trainer who wins 29% after his horses were the beaten favorite, we get a price.
In the final leg Talamo joins up with Hess again on the possible post time favorite #7 Sky Heart who has posting two disappointing seconds as the fav. #3 Gnarly Harly is dropping after a horrid trip in his last and will challenge for favorite at post time. I am also going to throw in a first time starter here, the #4 Lead The Pack despite the poor jockey and trainer stats so far at this meet. We had a similar story for our win last week in the last leg!.
Good luck to us today!
Today’s Pick 4 bet will cost $36
