Boom goes the dynamite! Finally after hitting 3 out of 4 daily for weeks we finally make it to the promised land. It came on a day where it rained heavy out of the blue at Santa Anita and scratched all of our picks in race #8! After the scratches we get the favorite three times on our bet and he romps home to victory. The payout wasn’t great but who cares. The drought ends! Let’s see if we can get a winning streak going today using our bread and butter 3X3X3X3 strategy!
The Pick 4 begins today in race #5 on the downhill course. The morning line favorite today is #8 Taylor Lane who won on this course against a few others in this race back on January 29. An outside post and a couple of decent works since make her the logical favorite. Enough to single? Not in my mind. Bejarano hops on #7 ScatFish who was 6th behind others in this race last out but it was her first race in seven months. Bejarano and Pender are 2 for 3. Pender wins 28% of his races 2nd out on turf. Scatfish also put in a fast workout on Saturday. 6-1 morning line yes please! I am also going to use #3 See Through. See has a couple of seconds and thirds on this hillside course and jockey Talamo is very overdue to heat up.
Race #6 is an $8k claimer with a few horses dropping their class in half. Which dropper will win? The morning line favorite is #6 My Jealous. Off since early January and a frontrunner the race could be his. If it was 6 or 6 1/2 furlongs he would be a slam dunk in my opinion. He has won 5 of 14 so he likes his picture to be taken! The interesting horse here is the #8 Trucial State. He rallied to win in his last at this class level after the drop at a big price. A fluke or did he find his proper level? His trainer is 2 for 5 this meet and 4 of 5 in the money. I am going to use #4 Qatar’s Pearl who has two seconds from three starts and likes to rally, something we want if our speedsters tire late. The possible morning line favorite is #3 Dress Code who has burned up enough of my money in the past. The $8k claiming level is tough as is this race.
Race #7 is a 6 half furlong sprint on dirt with #6 Fantastic Style from the Baffert/Garcia tandem. This duo is finally heating up. She finished second in her debut and then won nicely in her last. Even money to odds on possibly by post time I will use but there are a couple of other horses in here that if they win could make for a nice pick 4 payout. Fantastic Style is also moving up in class. #2 Bad Ju Ju wired in her last race and will be battling the favorite for the lead. She is also looking for her third straight win. This race though is a half furlong longer than her two wins. #7 Majestic Presence is also interesting and dropping in class today from Grade 1. She is also cutting back in distance and jockey Gary Stevens sticks around after riding her last two. When Stevens rides you pay attention.
The final leg in race #8 is a 5 1/2 furlong sprint for maidens. With most of the field first time starters the morning line favorite #8 Price of Glory is a tepid one at best. A third in his first race followed by a drop to this level and another third place finish is why. Glory FLIES from the gate only to get mowed down in the stretch. I can see why some would look to single but…#5 Grandson At Last had a sharp workout last week. His mammy also has 6 winners from her six starters. I am also going to use the #7 Sunshine Bandit. D’Amato is winning at a 25% rate with maidens. After dropping in her last to this level the jockey, Talamo lost his whip racing. Bandit is also shorting up and in his last few races he has contested early. An upset at a price perhaps!
Good luck to us today!
Today’s Pick 4 bet will cost $40.50.
