Santa Anita has not been kind to us thus far but that is the life of a horse handicapper. I often tell friends this joke – how can you tell who are married to a handicapper? On Friday its spam for dinner, on Saturday its lobster and filet mignon! I’d like some steak tonight please!
In the first leg race #6 the favorite is #9 Pulling G’s who has three seconds and a first from four starts. After a slow, slow break he was FAR behind when he came flying in the stretch to barely miss. A repeat and this race is his. The betting says this is a two horse race and choosing a single here is not a bad idea but I will spread. The second choice is #9 Logan’s Moon. Interesting thing though. Bejarano has ridden Logan’s previous races and now he hops on board #2 Whine for Wine. Mike Smith who now rides Logan rode all of Whine for Wine’s previous races. Who choose what horse? Bejarano is on fire and Smith is a beast on big money days. I give the edge to Wine as I like the horse but I’m going to use both.
#1 Finnegans Wake will try to start the double for jockey Espinoza today who rides Chrome in the next. Today’s extra distance can only help. #8 Dynmaic Sky had a bad trip in his comeback race last out and still managed to only lose by two lengths and kept on running after the finish line so he too should love the added distance and with a clean trip watch out.
I may be the only person in California who thinks #5 Shared Belief is a better horse than #8 California Chrome but there it is, I do. I will say today’s winner should be one of these two and given the results of late at Santa Anita I will still use both to cover my bases. #1 Hoppertunity has a chance if the favorites fail but its my belief in that scenario we get a total bomb, an unlikely event so I will go with the two favorites, although I strongly debated singling Shared Belief.
In the final leg #10 Intoxicating Move is a horse I like and always seems to be in the mix. Back after a two month rest this late runner could get the win. The speed here is #2 Demonica with Talamo on board and has two wins and a second in her last three races. Can she hold on for the win? #6 Fresh Feline is an invader from back east who finished behind Demonica in her first race in Cali last month. Because we have gone light in earlier picks I can throw in an outsider, the #12 Thewandaofu an Irish invader who did well in England. The big knock is she has not raced in 15 months.
Today’s bet will cost $24
Good luck today!
