The morning line favorite in the 1st leg today is #5 Heavenly Haze but I have a hard time using him off a 2nd place finish 12 days ago. This horse does not like to pass in the stretch and is adding distance today and you know my feel on short turnarounds! Trainer Spawr is winning 32% but.. I am going to use #6 Lucky Shoes to Win who won last out going a mile and change and prior to that was leading at the mile distance into the stretch before running 6th. His last race where he won was a live one with three next out winners. #7 Thunder Basin has Pedroza stick around (he rode Lucky last race). He lost by a nose going slightly longer last out despite bobbling at the start. Bejarano rides #3 I’m Zonin who stretches out for Baltas but will lose the weight break and is stretching out.
To da hill we go for race #6 and as you would expect the favorite is a tepid 7/2 price, the #5 Hawkedon with Bejarano riding. This horse is a money burner though losing as the favorite over the last 3 races and is coming in off another 3 month break. #7 Incline Village likes the hill with 3 wins, 3 places and a show from 10 starts. Smith jumps on #3 Acceptance who tries the hill for the first time. Note this horse ran 4th in a Grade 2 in December and with Smith hoping off one of his other favorite mounts (#9 Hunt) to ride this guy make me want to pay attention! If #1 Dead Easy was not on the rail he would be a must include as well but if you have the bankroll consider. Desormeaux rides this horse that has a win, 2 places and a show on the hill. His only win on the hill was with Kent riding.
Smith rides the 9/5 favorite in race 7, the #8 Danzing Candy who wired the field going 7 furlongs. If you need a single in the sequence you could do worse than this one but Smith has a habit up blowing up my Pick 4’s when I single him. Prat is slowly moving up the win ladder since returning and if you remember he was red hot before that spill late last year. He rides #9 Secret Room unbeaten in two races. He is rising in class off a sharp workout and this trainer/jockey are winning 50% (2 of 4). A great price. The Desormeaux/Hess tandem have been ice cold. There was a time not long ago it seemed almost everything they teamed up on won. #3 French Getaway is actually the only Hess winner at the meet so far. I will use.
In the last leg #1 Anda was leading in the stretch going 6 1/2 so the cutback to 6f today should be ideal. A switch from bug boy Kennedy to red hot bug boy Lopez adds to the appeal here along with the 6-1 price. Lopez last rode #5 Adair to two third place finishes and today Maldonado gets the call for D’ Amato. That last race saw two next out winners as well. Bejarano rides #8 Uptown Rythem for Carla and she is winning 40% (2 of 5) dropping multiple classes. Off since May with steady works.
Today’s Late Pick 4 will cost $36 with horses listed in preference.
Showvivor Pick – Race 2 And Then Some
When I have three horses selected in a Pick 4 or Pick 5 consider them for Trifecta boxes and for superfecta boxes use the 3 selections with the highest priced horse with good form or top tier jockeys riding, especially if they give a price. Rolling Pick 3 and doubles using selections.
