We made it out of the downhill course yesterday but whiffed in the 7th with neither horse coming even close. Today I will be at Santa Anita for the Sunshine Millions Wine Festival partaking in some great food and wine and hopefully backing some nice winners! Today’s late Pick Four is again guaranteed for $500k – let’s see if we can get some of that!
This is a very hard leg to get out of! The first leg begins in race #7 and #3 Home Journey looks interesting. A sharp work last week and a gate to wire win in her last at Del Mar make her a logical choice. The #4 Velvet Mesquite is 5 for 7 at this distance on turf and as a trend/numbers man she too is a must use here. The #6 Heavens Stairway is 4 for 5 at this distance on turf as well. The morning line favorite is #14 Heat Trap with Espinoza and Gaines who are winning 33%. Others that could be used are the #13 Magic Spot who is 4 of 6 on turf. #9 Kathleen Rose is anther horse I really like who is shortening up here after a 5th place finish in her last that she lost by a mere length. I could go on with others here. This is a tough leg to emerge from and a possible all race!
The odds on fav in the 8th race is #2 San Onofre who making his first start in almost a year but has a 4 win streak going. A single for many but a tough single for me given how deep I need to go in the 1st leg. I usually hate long layoff odds on favorites but today I have no choice. #3 Rousing Sermon is a horse I really like too and will use in another ticket.
The 9th race we have a rare occurrence. The #3 Alert Bay is moving DOWN in class, a profitable maneuver at Santa Anita thus far, but he is doing this after FOUR straight wins! For a little fun, as hopefully by the time this race runs I’ll be hammered, I am also going to throw in the #9 Boozer. What an apt name in the middle of the Wine Festival! Boozer loves this course and has been in the money 6 of 7. My dad’s favorite jockey also rides today, Mr. Gary Steven’s. Gotta use! Two others to look at closely here are the #5 Big Bane Theory who is a big threat in the stretch with Talamo on board. Bejarano on the #2 G.G Ryder with trainer Hollendorfer and his 27% win rate at Santa Anita is 3 for 5 on turf and is paying 12-1 on the morning line.
The final race is another that looks tough. When the lowest price on the morning line is 7/2 you know the race is up for grabs! #6 She Got Away dropped in her last but had a bad trip. With no issues today she could run to the winners circle! The #11 ran 4th twice in a row and then finished second in her last. She beat three of the horses in this race and the jockey/trainer combo is 2 for 3 – a small sample but in an up for grabs race those are the kind of stats/trends I look for. I went big early in this bet so that means I can only go two deep here.
