A great weekend of racing kicks off today and tomorrow brings us the Sunshine Millions Wine Festival. If you haven’t been to this awesome event its a must. Nothing like great wine and beer and horse racing at the great race place! Anyways, let us get to work and see if we can pay for tomorrow’s fun with a nice pick 4 win today!
The Pick 4 starts today in the 5th and the #1 Hugh Knew with Stevens on board jumps out. The Truman and Stevens combo are 2 for 2 so far. Hugh is 2 for 2 here on the Hillside course too! The #7 A Little Luckier with Desormeaux and Hollendorfer is another interesting horse here. These two are 2 for 4 and Hollendorfer is winning 28%. As for my final pick it was a tough choice between the #4 Dissension with Talamo and the #9 Camryn Kate with Bejarano. With #8 dropping and posting a fast workout I give her the edge. #4 scratched from a $50k claimer to run here but she is an out of state invader so my preference always go to cal racers. Still its the downhill course so I will use both.
In race #6 my favorite jockey/trainer combo shows up on #6 Guyfromtheskyfive. They’ve been a little cold so far at Santa Anita however. He had posted three straight seconds before finishing 4th behind two next our winners. #5 Gnarly Harly is a dropper who ran a great race in his last, running 4 wide throughout before finally tiring. A better trip and he could have won. Perhaps today?
In the 7th we have a 9 furlong marathon on the turf with a Paddy running, the #4 Soresca so I will use. She is dropping and the morning line favorite is another dropper, the #6 Lady’s Plan with Bejarano on board. Both of these finished for a dead heat in their last. If Lady is the favorite then I have to consider #4. I am also going to use the #8 Belonging who is 2 for 3. The key here is the weight break that could be a difference maker at this distance. Now that Van Dyke has ended his apprentice the other rookies are going to have the weight break and in this race Green gets 10 pounds. Coincidentally, Green rode one of Belonging’s wins last year.
It goes without saying that I am going to use the #4 Irish and Lucky in the last race but hear me out! She won her last race at Los Al impressively and gives us a decent price should we be blessed and be alive to this race. The morning line favorite is the #6 Push Girl who is dropping after missing by three lengths in her last. She won big here back in November. #5 Vegas Bound is a horse I like to bet on. She ran an impressive fourth place. I know, I know how is a 4th place run impressive! It was however her first start in 10 months and she is fast early, something that helps at this 5 1/2 furlong distance.
I like my chances today on this Pick 4 bet that will cost $36
