Three out of four yet again! This time I was done in by my single in the last race. I have come very close in the last few days and that tells me the big one is at hand! Let’s see if we can nail it today in what looks like a very doable sequence! Today is also a $500k guaranteed Pick 4 making the payoff potentials all the better.
Today’s sequence begins in the 6th race, a 5 1/2 furlong sprint. #9 Momma Tried showed speed in her first start before petering out. She shortens up today. The last time she raced at this distance she was second. I just don’t like the morning line favorite #4 Tiz All That, another speedster. Instead I will use a first time starter #2 Hot Surfing, a son of Surf Cat. All the chatter has been about Hot’s workouts, including a very fast 5 furlong workout two weeks ago. The other possible post time favorite today is #6 North Lake Tahoe who had a troubled trip in his last. Blinkers on and an outside draw today could be the key to winning.
In the 7th race #4 Nashoba’s Gold is a horse I simply like watching. She has won multiple graded races but misfired in her last back in May and has been off since. Talamo on board for this Gaines filly. The only negative is the layoff but Gaines does do well with horses firing fresh. #6 Winning Rhythm is another horse I like to watch racing with her come from behind turf style. The Irish combo of Kieran & Gallaher team up here. Winning has a 2 of 3 record with her recent loss only being by two lengths. #3 Rusty Slipper is a dropper and lost by only 1 1/2 lengths in her last. It was her first after a layoff though. Bejarano rides and we back at that stage again where if Bejarano is on-board you pay attention. Finally #1 Blingismything is another filly I just like betting on and have done well with. 2 wins and 2 seconds before she finished 7th in a scramble in her last. That 7th place finish was not as bad as it sounds as she lost by only 2 lengths.
Baffert has been ice-cold for several months now in Southern California but eventually he will heat up. Lets hope it is with the speed-monster #5 JoJo Warrior. JoJo had a bad race in her last here, plain and simple and looked like many of Bafferts other odds-on horses of late. Still, this is a horse that is VERY capable of a gate-to-wire win here today at this distance and after her last I will get a decent price today it seems. The morning line favorite here today is #3 Lexie Lou. Nakatani & Casse hook up here for a winning combo of 31% so far. This however is her first start on dirt BUT she is dropping in class. The other possible in this race is the #3 Sam’s Sister who is 2 for 2 on dirt and had a fast workout two weeks ago.
The last leg looks a bit tough but I think if we get to this race we are looking good. Bejarano jumps on-board #10 Itsgettinhotinhere, a horse that loves to fly in from the clouds in the stretch. One has to believe Bejarano had his pick of horses in here adding to the appeal. #7 Fort Candy has been two thirds and a second in her last three and is the morning line favorite. On the turf with Talamo I will use. If these two don’t win then the others all seem doable so I will stick to just two here. #6 Easy Ten is a possible use here too at a decent price.
