Yesterday proved to be tough with both our Pick 4 bets getting knocked out in the first leg by a horse who had not finished better then 4th in previous starts. Such is the way of handicapping. Today there are some horses I like running in the Pick 4 so lets see if we can get the win!
In the fifth race there are a couple of horses who I like from past performances. I have done well betting them in the past and therefore I am going to use them today. #10 Los Bambinos has a first and two seconds in his last three and his last race produced some next out winners, validating the effort. #6 Horizontalyspeaking is another horse I have liked watching but he moved too far up the ladder and is now realistically dropping. Speedy and has the potential to wire the field. However, this mile distance also means we have to have at least one closer. Sometimes in these turf races nothing beats the thrill of a closer zooming up the track and winning on the wire, especially for a price and #1 Tigah is a horse that can certainly do that today. Always in the mix and finished ahead of Los Bambinos the last time they raced. #2 Press Baron has Bejarano on board and could go favorite BUT he has his claimed voided in the last so I will pass.
In the 6th race # Crucero is a possible single for many handicappers. He has not raced in almost a year however, the risk factor of singling him here but he is dropping and droppers like this have been winning big time at Santa Anita. The other dropper in here is #1 City State who last raced on dirt a couple of years ago. #3 Arlington House will likely see a short price too because red-hot Bejarano is on board but he moving up in class after a 6th place finish so I wont be using. In fact I’m just going to go ahead and single the #6.
Ya ya I know the Irish are not running well in Southern California but I have to use them especially when they are favorite! Third in her debut and then seventh in her last after what can only be called an awful trip the power combo of Stevens/Procter hook up on #6 Bobbi Grace. A possible single here too except we are on the hillside course today. #10 Pankhurst had a huge lead in her last at 8 furlongs before being swallowed up and finishing 10th. The cut back to 6 and a half for a jockey/trainer combo winning at a 31% rate makes sense. I will use only two on one ticket and all on another in this leg.
Another possible single today is the #1 Cyrus Alexander who has been so close recently and may finally make it to the winners circle here today. The risk is seconditus. #9 Wabel from the Garcia/Baffert tandem has run second in his first two races. Baffert is overdue for a win streak, perhaps today.
