Santa Anita 01-08-2017 Full Card Free

Update: Race 1 use 2,14,8,9,3 makes the Pick 5 $25 total

The last two weeks have been utter suckery thanks to the rain that has forced most races off the turf and turned the dirt course into a rednecks mudding delight. Handicapping cards like this is commonplace back East but rare in So Cal. We must continue through the slop with smaller than normal bets until we can get back to normal racing again! Yesterday we ended up making it to the last leg of the Pick 4 and thanks to a scratch had the 6/5 ‘should not lose on a normal track favorite’ twice – you know the rest of that story as he faltered in the slop and we ran 3 of 4 again! Again I am forced to handicap assuming races will be on turf and even though there is no rain forecast today there is a high chance they get taken off!

For this 56 day meet I have some new options – the full meet is 60% off right now. You also have the choice of a monthly rate for 40% off. Click the link below to chose the plan that best suits you!

We have a rare early Double that looks too good to be true today but we will take a swing at it anyways! In race 2 we have a maiden $20k race with a dropper at 2-1 Country Road and as Brad Free has indicated this is one of the most reliable types of races to do favorites in on the circuit! In race 3 Forest Blue comes out for Miller and Baze and they are 4 of 8 recently and Miller is winning an incredible 44% dropping off a win. Off course we have slop to deal with but a nice Double potential nonetheless!

In the late Pick 4 Avici with Prat riding in race 6 is 2 of 3 in the slop and at this distance is 2-2-2 from 8 starts so if you are looking for a single this would be one!

Longshots of the Day: Win/place bets on these

Race 1: My Alchemist, finished 5th behind 2 next out winners who race in today’s G2, tries turf today for the 1st time (if its not moved, if its stays on dirt an advantage at a price)

Race 5: Atta’ Boy Woody, has a win, place, show on dirt so if this race is pulled off turf a distinct advantage at 8-1

Race 7: Eric the Trojan, Prat stays aboard on the switch back to preferred surface where his wins have come all under Prat too, rail is winning 24% and we get 8-1

Race 8: Princess Karen, major jockey upgrade in my book as Bejarano takes over for Smith who chooses to ride the favorite in here, won her debut at this distance which is a tough thing to do especially gate to wire, bullet works all over the page for this one and we get 8-1

Race 9: Gutsy Ruler, a sharp work off the bench after 11 months, finished second in debut then surging late at this distance, sharp workout and protected here at 12-1 on a class raise too

Today’s Late Pick 4 singling will cost $22.50 with horses listed in preference.

Horses listed in brackets are for added coverage if wanted and for exotics.

For races where I only have one or two selections I usually like to KEY the top choice  with the second choice and an outside for trifectas.

When I have three horses selected in a Pick 4 or Pick 5 consider them for Trifecta boxes and for superfecta boxes use the 3 selections with the highest priced horse with good form or top tier jockeys riding, especially if they give a price. Rolling Pick 3 and doubles using selections.
