It was chalky again yesterday but we hit the Pick4 for the second day in a row on a nice and low $12 ticket that paid $84! A couple of key scratches disappointed but a key add to the 1st leg helped get the job done. Always check my twitter handle when plays I have selected get scratched for new updates. I’m feeling a weekend sweep is in order on the Pick4! Bomb Mar does seem to be back again with some huge prices hitting in the early part of the day yesterday. The good thing is they seem to be coming in waves and they have been hitting before the Pick4 starts. Keep this in mind however for post time changes!
The Pick4 begins in race 5 today and the favorite is #8 Pepnic ridden by Smokin Joe Talamo. This is a 5 furlong race on turf and the frontrunners have been the horses doing the damage at this distance lately and Pepnic will be coming late. Pepnic is one for one at this distance here at Del Mar and is a definite must use but singling here is tough. #1 Chips All In likes Del Mar with three seconds and a third from six starts here. He was in the leading pack at this distance at Del Mar in August before getting caught. In his last race he ran in a Grade 3 on the Hillside and tired. An interesting horse in here is #3 Second Proposal who almost pulled it off from the clouds down the Hillside three weeks ago. Trainer Kuljac is an impressive 9 of 17 2nd time on grass and despite the class raise and unimpressive works he warrants a strong consideration. He won here at Del Mar going 6 furlongs on dirt in August.
The betting in the 6th race has this as a three horse race between 4,5 and the slight favorite #7 Pippappy. Gelded after his last going a mile he drops to a sprint. He finished second at this distance in July here. #5 Warren My Boy has a third, second and third from his last three starts. He could try to go gate to wire here today. #4 Anda is a fresh face debuting for Puype but at 4 years old. He put in a best of day workout on October 10 going 4 furlongs and two jaunts, get in shape works going 6 furlong after. There is little quality in this race so I will hope these three get us through to the next leg.
We get a Grade 2 on turf for race 7. Espinoza flew back from his Grand Slam win yesterday to ride the favorite here today, #6 Elektrum. He won on her here in August in a Grade 2 race going a mile and 1/8 and passed up racing in the Breeders Cup for this. As today’s ticket is very cheap I am going to use a price in here, #4 Uzziel from the Desormeaux brothers. Uzzeil may be rounding in her best form yet. She ran second last out in a Grade 3 going 6 1/2 at Santa Anita and prior to that won here going 6 furlongs on the dirt. What jumps out is the workouts in the last month. She turned in a best of 61 workout prior to her last race and last week was 5th best of 85.
The favorite in the last leg going 7 furlongs is #6 Hide My Heart. Art Sherman reclaimed this horse and is winning 40% off this move this year. He legs up red-hot rookie Kennedy for the big weight break too. Bejarano rides #8 Ipray who won here in September going a mile with a second prior and a win before that. Moving up in class we get a shorter price that we would if Bejarano were not riding.
Today’s Late Pick 4 will cost $18 horses listed in preference
When I have three horses selected in a Pick 4 or Pick 5 consider them for Trifecta boxes and for superfecta boxes use the 3 selections with the highest priced horse with good form or top tier jockeys riding, especially if they give a price. Rolling Pick 3 and doubles using selections.
Good Luck today!
