From cloud 9 to splat – welcome to Del Mar. The bombs continued to fall yesterday, even in the featured race where the one horse with zero chance came home at 30-1! I will be off the next few days but back for the last week of Del Mar before we head to more normal racing at Santa Anita. Something to keep in mind in the coming days – many owners and trainers are going to be aggressive in the last few days at Del Mar to get their marquee win so keep that in mind when handicapping and hunting for prices. Droppers are being dropped now for that very reason. Like we saw again yesterday, Del Mar is not a favorites track!
Race 5 has been run 8 times with zero favorites winning and only 13% being 5-1 or less. The price horses here are #3 Line of Doom at 12-1 but there are only four workouts. This is a trainer owned however. #1 Big Finish is 5-1 for a trainer who is winnings 30% 1st time claiming. #6 Freedom Hill with Talamo riding for a 19% maiden claiming trainer.
Today’s Late Pick 4 will cost $24 with horses listed in preference
The Pick 5 has become almost impossible at Del Mar unless your bankroll is giant. I have my selections for the 1st 4 races but my eye is on exotics.
Races 1-5 selections
When I have three horses selected in a Pick 4 or Pick 5 consider them for Trifecta boxes and for superfecta boxes use the 3 selections with the highest priced horse with good form or top tier jockeys riding, especially if they give a price. Rolling Pick 3 and doubles using selections.
