Ciaran Thornton, the head handicapper at California Pick 4, grew up in Ireland and at a young age, thanks to his dad’s guidance, learned the art of horse handicapping. Ciaran was ranked #8 in the NHC Handicappers Tour  and was as high as #2 this year.

Honing his skills over the years at Santa Anita and then Del Mar, Ciaran has now focused his attention on the new LOW TAKEOUT $5 Late Double and $3 Late Pick 3 daily bets at Southern California racetracks with an emphasis on long-shot and value plays.

It takes a knowledgeable, talented and of course lucky horse handicapper to rise to the challenge and find winners. That’s where we come in! Ciaran has hosted the Newcomers Seminar at the Del Mar Race Track every Friday and Sunday during the Summer and Fall meets and was also a contributor to the Los Angeles Times Daily Horse Racing Newsletter, and to the Del Mar and Santa Anita Handicapping websites.  Ciaran has also written the Del Mar value play for the Union Tribune Sports page and has been a frequent TV guest recently appearing as the Handicapper of the Day on TVG this Summer at Del Mar. Ciaran is currently the co-host of the new live podcast “Double Trouble Live” with Frank Scatoni another giant in the Southern California handicapping world. Together they handicap the low takeout Double LIVE on their show Friday’s and Sunday’s before the 2nd to last race on the card.
