11-23-2019 Del Mar Full Card

We won a modest Pick 5 yesterday despite a slew of scratches thanks in part to our single doing the job and the scratched favorites doing theirs. 9 races await us today and hopefully we see the turf races stay on grass.

Pick 5 I need a single is in race 4 Del Mar May who towers over these having run well in graded stakes races. Trainer Baltas is 28% at the meet. The presence of Message with Van Dyke riding for Baffert and their outside post will give a better price than we should get! 1st start since May and only 5 workouts since hitting the bench is the negative here. I do have a value play in this race…

Value Plays of the Day:

Race 3: Dipping In is an O’Neill horse that drops into maiden claiming today and the trainer is 26% on this move. Debuted here in August at 5fl and came late to race 2nd but passed the winners on the gallop out. They go back to turf today after two failed tries on dirt including the last where she bobbled badly at the start and had no chance. 8-1 is excellent value.

Race 4: Andyourshallrecieve is the “other” Koriner/Jay Em Ess horse and Cedillo rides. Trainer is 23% turf to dirt. If I am betting against the top choices lets go with my fav jockey of the moment who has done very well in these types of stakes races this year.

Race 5: Miss Flawless is ridden by Prat for Eurton and he is 50%, all on longshots. This is a jockey stats play for me at this generous 10-1 morning line.

Race 9: Chase and Colorado rises in class today and exits the same race as 2nd favorite Peyton’s Path who in that race flew early and was caught on the line. Chase made a late move to run 5th but closed after the line. Diaz hops on today and they supplement for a bigger weight break – 8 pounds now. Diaz is 1 for 1 for this trainer on a huge 40-1 bomber. We see a sharp workout for a trainer who is 20% (5 of 25) moving up in class. 15-1 is great value in a race horses over 10-1 win a whopping 31%

Typos happen and I do my best not to make them. Always read through my writeups to make sure the posted numbers are correct. I list Pick 4, Pick 5 selections and also a listing of all plays for each race. If there are any differences, please let me know.

*Horses listed in brackets are for added coverage if wanted and for exotics.

For races where I only have one or two selections I usually like to KEY the top choice  with the second choice and an outside for trifectas.

When I have three horses selected in a Pick 4 or Pick 5 consider them for Trifecta boxes and for superfecta boxes use the 3 selections with the highest priced horse with good form or top tier jockeys riding, especially if they give a price. Rolling Pick 3 and doubles using selections.
