Pick 5 I need a single is in race 3 Honor A.P cost $850k and debuted at Del Mar August 17th. Mike Smith had the horse sitting in Tijuana into the turn 8 back. These are the Smith rides where if you bet the horse you are cursing and screaming at him but then as is usually the case he flies from the clouds as Trevor Denman would say to run 2nd. That race was 6 furlongs and today they go a Mile and everything on paper says this is a clear standout single. 1st start in 2 months but regular workouts so nothing to be concerned on.

Pick 4 I need a single is in race – none

Longshots of the Day:

Race 1: Prince Magician is 12-1 morning line was overmatched in a stakes race last out. In the debut was edged for 3rd. Hector Palmer adds blinkers today and drops the horse into this Maiden Special weight, a category is does well with with a 19% win rate. They debuted the horse at maiden 40, tried a stakes race to no avail and now drop to this class. They still race the horse protected however so they aren’t throwing it away today. A couple of sharp workouts since that last race are not claim bait. I’m lookin here as the horse, the race profile with debut horses is similar to my 23-1 longshot winner Party Town on Thursday.

Race 4: Whoa Nessie simply dominated last out at Del Mar on dirt winning by an easy 11 lengths for trainer Hess. Looking at the race replay here into the turn you can see Cedillo knows he has a horse and it’s just a matter of how much he wins by. We even got the Denman “Sprout wings” stretch call and when I hear that I always pay attention to a horses next race. Today they switch back to turf. The horse is 1 for 2 at this distance on turf with that win here in April.

Race 8: Hootie has been the victim of a couple of bad trips in the last 2 races at this distance. On the gallop out the horse still looked loaded and passes the winner. In the next race yet again this horse was keen to go on mid race on the rush up but again had to steady. This horse if given room mid race could blast and leave them all behind. Abel Cedillo now gets the mount and this is a MAJOR upgrade and as I said earlier this jockey, Abel he STUDIES the form and the races and you can bet, I am for sure, that he has a winning game-plan for today for this horse. Many will throw the towel in but in my view NOW is the time to really bet this horse as he drifts up to a very attractive 8-1 value with a major jockey upgrade. This is a very wide open race, probably the best value on the card today along with race 2. In the Pick 4 I am going DEEP using 8,2,1,3,4,6!

Typos happen and I do my best not to make them. Always read through my writeups to make sure the posted numbers are correct. I list Pick 4, Pick 5 selections and also a listing of all plays for each race. If there are any differences, please let me know.

*Horses listed in brackets are for added coverage if wanted and for exotics.

For races where I only have one or two selections I usually like to KEY the top choice  with the second choice and an outside for trifectas.

When I have three horses selected in a Pick 4 or Pick 5 consider them for Trifecta boxes and for superfecta boxes use the 3 selections with the highest priced horse with good form or top tier jockeys riding, especially if they give a price. Rolling Pick 3 and doubles using selections.

“The grace of God is found between the saddle and the ground.”
