08-17-2019 Del Mar Pacific Classic Full Card

It’s Pacific Classic Day and we have a great 11 race card to make some big money on! This is the best betting card of the entire meet thus far. I will be hosting the Newcomers Seminar today so stop on by and get my free plays and some tips and tricks on winning here. Del Mar has been very chalky with favorites winning a bunch of races lately. Today’s card looks like longshots should do very well. My tickets are on the larger side today as its PC Day and I have included all my possible plays for those wanting to create larger tickets!

UNION TRIBUNE VALUE PLAY OF THE DAY:

Tenth race Pacific Classic No. 6, Higher Power (8-1), No. 9, Mongolian Groom (20-1)

This is the most wide open the race has been in years. I am looking for price horses and I am looking at local horses to dominate. Higher Power is from red hot trainer John Sadler, the leading jockey Flavian Prat rides and the top owner and DMTC board member Hronis Racing owns. 8-1 morning line is great. When Prat rides for Sadler they mean business. We get a sharp workout as well. Mongolian Groom, who’s trainer Enebish Ganbat had a great writeup in the Union Tribune on Thursday, is a must use in all bets. The horse ran a closing second in the Grade 2 San Diego last month here going shorter. Jockey Abel Cedillo, a jockey to watch right now, rides and they have won 2 of 4 races together. This trainer is 2-2-1 from 6 starts at Del Mar. This year’s Pacific Classic has all the potential for a nice upset and upset means value.

Pick 5 I need a single is race  3 Eddie Haskel who has 6 wins and a 2nd at Del Mar from 7 races and is 9-2-1 from 12 races at this distance.

Pick 4 I need a single is in race – none this is longshot day but if I had to it would be Salsa Bella in race 11. Andrew Lerner has made us money and is winning 80% 2nd start with the trainer. He is 4 of 5 and 100% in the money at a huge ROI. Cedillo rides today after a closing 3rd last out but the horse quickly passed the winner on the gallop out. I love the jockey move here. Single here we can spread the other races.

Longshots of the Day:

Race 4: Mr Dejavu is a shipper from Arizona Downs and eligible for the ship and win bonus money. The jockey who rode the last two wins comes to Del Mar for today. This is a small trainer with only a few starts but he wins over 25% across multiple categories and when you bet on his horses you make a profit. A big 20-1 or more price looks delicious! This is a huge jump in class but they race the horse protected today, they did not ship just to be seen at Del Mar, they want to be seen in the winners circle

Race 7: Oscar Dominguez, Prat hops off to ride United but I think this is the better horse and Talamo is just as good on turf. This is the other Baltas horse and with a hot pace expected early this horse will have speed to close into. 12-1 and likely higher is great for this wide open race

Race 8: Into Chocolate was fractious in the gate last out and had her head pushed down by the starter as the gate opened and she stumbled. She made a tremendous late race move but could not hold on. They add blinkers today for more focus out of the gate and Smith re-rides. This horse in the race prior broke sharply, went to the lead, hung back then powered late. The blinkers today should see that set up occur again. I love the price today of 10-1 or more. Top speed in the race and these are the races Smith wins. The East Coast invaders should give us an even better price.

Race 9: Hidden Message shipped in from a win in the UK last month and right after that win they shipped her straight here where she has put in 4 nice workouts. This is a Qatar Racing horse – they eyed this race. Prat is riding and trainer Callaghan is on fire this year winning 30%. He is 28% 1st start and 30% 1st time Lasix and both of those are with nice profits. Taking a jump in class the outside post is not a concern because Prat is riding. Excellent price for us in this VERY wide open race – the favorite is vulnerable here

*Horses listed in brackets are for added coverage if wanted and for exotics.

For races where I only have one or two selections I usually like to KEY the top choice  with the second choice and an outside for trifectas.

When I have three horses selected in a Pick 4 or Pick 5 consider them for Trifecta boxes and for superfecta boxes use the 3 selections with the highest priced horse with good form or top tier jockeys riding, especially if they give a price. Rolling Pick 3 and doubles using selections.

“The grace of God is found between the saddle and the ground.”
