08-11-2019 Del Mar Full Card

We should have had that late pick 4 yesterday for a very handsome payout with the mid morning change I made for race 8. We entered the last race with 6 of the nine horses including the top three choices but alas the frontrunners left the gate open and a nice longshot in race 7 was wasted. Onward we go! Alas, jockey Prat, who had five wins yesterday, has been our nemesis thus far at the meet. He either beats us on the line with our longshots or loses on our favorites and run second so new tactic starting today – use him every race!

If you are going to Del Mar this summer be sure to stop by and say Hi. I will be hosting the Newcomers Seminar every Friday and Sunday inside the main gate.

UNION TRIBUNE VALUE PLAY OF THE DAY:

Fifth race No. 11, Indy Jones (8-1)

Indy Jones is a trainer Val Brinkerhoff longshot at 8-1. Val is known for big upsets here in Southern California. The horse cuts back in distance today after racing third going a mile two weeks ago. In that race Indy battled on the lead only to get caught late. The cutback may be ideal and there are no horses in this race like the one that beat him last out.

Pick 5 I need a single is race 4 Inspiressa cost $850k and debuts for Sadler who promptly puts Espinoza on. Sharp works going back to last month this is a race where you do all the top choices or land on one. Im landing here. Granted Prat rides the other $850k horse Superstition. Race 3 Shining Through. Jockey Flavian Prat rode most of the horses in this race and sticks here. The horse has a case of seconditus having run 2nd in the last 4 races but Prat is here and gets in light too!

Pick 4 I need a single is in race

Longshots of the Day:

Race 2: Lostinthemoment was our UT pick July 25th and drops in class today with Van Dyke staying put

Race 3: Save Ground makes the first start since November here at Del Mar. From 4 starts here we have 2 seconds and a third. There is going to be a hot pace in this race so I want a closer. Because the break has been so long we get this price.

Race 5: Indy Jones is a trainer Val Brinkerhoff longshot at 8-1. Val is known for big upsets here in Southern California. The horse cuts back in distance today after racing third going a mile two weeks ago. In that race Indy battled on the lead only to get caught late. The cutback may be ideal and there are no horses in this race like the one that beat him last out.

Race 7: Kram is 20-1 for East Coast trainer Todd Fincher and Mike Smith rides – two things that make me go hmmm. This is Smith’s only ride today. This is a big jump in class but these are the types of races we have seen bombshots in.

Typos happen and I do my best not to make them. Always read through my writeups to make sure the posted numbers are correct. I list Pick 4, Pick 5 selections and also a listing of all plays for each race. If there are any differences, please let me know.

*Horses listed in brackets are for added coverage if wanted and for exotics.

For races where I only have one or two selections I usually like to KEY the top choice  with the second choice and an outside for trifectas.

When I have three horses selected in a Pick 4 or Pick 5 consider them for Trifecta boxes and for superfecta boxes use the 3 selections with the highest priced horse with good form or top tier jockeys riding, especially if they give a price. Rolling Pick 3 and doubles using selections.

“The grace of God is found between the saddle and the ground.”
