That should have been another Pick 4 win for us yesterday but alas the best horse in the race was beaten on the line by a nose! Such is the life of a horseplayer. On to today’s card we go and we have a nice 9 race day to find some winners from. Yesterday in the early Pick 5 our single won yet again but it was the favorites in other legs that sunk us running second. We continue to be right there in all sequences being let down by favorites or bad rides to run second. Some racing luck is going to be coming our way!
If you are at Del Mar this summer be sure to stop by the Newcomers Seminar and say hello as I will be hosting it each Sunday one hour before the first race at the main entrance.
On dirt sprints posts 3 is winning 19% with 13 wins from 69 races followed by post 7 with 11. For dirt routes post 6 is tops at 9 of 51 for 18% followed by post 1 with 8 wins from 51. The turf course has somewhat evened but outside posts 9-12 lead.
Pick 4 I need a single is race 9 Twisted Road who races from post 11 that has the highest win % at 27% (3 of 11). 2nd start off the claim for a trainer who wins 25% on this, 3rd start off the layoff tends to be the best in a horses racing cycle. Trainer O’Neill is winning 26% 2nd off the claim like today
Pick 5 I need a single is in race 3 River Boyne with Prat riding. Has won 4 of the last 5 races, highest speed in the race, top turf speed, trainer is 19% off the layoff and 20% in graded stakes races and 21% winner last race. I also grew up on the River Boyne in Ireland so how do I not bet him!
Longshots of the Day:
Race 7: Chica La Habana, was 6th in her US debut in June off a nine month break and is dropping in class today with the 2nd time Lasix angle. This horse raced in Grade 1 and Grade 2 races at Royal Ascot and Newmarket in the UK so there is some serious class here. Owners Dp Racing have been known to hit with giant longshots here at Del Mar and this horses speed is tops. We likely get better than the 10-1 morning line. Also trainer Cassidy is 35% ITM across multiple categories – point being a must use in exotic bets
Race 8: Stirred, hoping we get better than 5-1, won her debut race and Van Dyke had other options for this race and sticks here probably because he is winning 40% for this trainer and 60% in the money. Trainer is winning 24% in graded stakes races
Today’s Late Pick 4 beginning in race 6 will cost $67.50 or $22.50 with the single with horses listed in preference.
Today’s Early Pick 5 beginning in race 1 will cost $56 with the single and using all in race 1 with horses listed in preference
5,4,7 or ALL
Horses listed in brackets are for added coverage if wanted and for exotics.
For races where I only have one or two selections I usually like to KEY the top choice with the second choice and an outside for trifectas.
When I have three horses selected in a Pick 4 or Pick 5 consider them for Trifecta boxes and for superfecta boxes use the 3 selections with the highest priced horse with good form or top tier jockeys riding, especially if they give a price. Rolling Pick 3 and doubles using selections.

“The grace of God is found between the saddle and the ground.”
