We swept the card yesterday hitting the winner in every race and taking down decent Pick 5 and Pick 4 wins for small ticket sizes. The longshot winner in the last race jumped the pays up nicely for us! We now have some ammo for the weekend. It’s 4 ‘o’Clock Friday again so if you are onsite at Del Mar stop by and say hello as I will be hosting the Newcomers Seminar one hour before the 1st post. We have 8 races on today’s card.
If you are going to Del Mar this summer be sure to stop by and say Hi. I will be hosting the Newcomers Seminar every Friday and Sunday inside the main gate.
UNION TRIBUNE VALUE PLAY OF THE DAY:
Fourth race. No. 2, Lord Adare (6-1)
Trainer Bob Hess is off to a red-hot start at Del Mar winning 31% of his races thus far. Jockey Kent Desormeaux is winning 29% when riding for Hess and their wins have been on longshots. When this tandem is hot like this at Del Mar you pay attention to every ride they have. We see a sharp workout last week and the horse races protected today in the debut. In a card devoid of value today I am landing here.
Pick 5 I need a single is race 1 Brilliant Richie who has the top last race speed, top back speed, top late pace and is a horse that can go gate-to-wire or stalk and pounce. Versatile and an easy single to start the day. Dropping in class today off a win last out they come in for the Del Mar win. In race 5 Clear to Close is the best of a mediocre bunch in this race. Trainer Wong is winning 27% dropping into maiden claimers
Longshots of the Day:
Race 6: Catoca tried different tactics last out on dirt sitting off the pace and running on late with Maldonado riding. With so much early speed that tactic would be great here today. 15-1 morning line looks attractive
Race 8: Include the Tax races protected today for trainer Michael McCarthy. He gets a big weight break with jockey Diaz riding and put in a sharp work last week.

Typos happen and I do my best not to make them. Always read through my writeups to make sure the posted numbers are correct. I list Pick 4, Pick 5 selections and also a listing of all plays for each race. If there are any differences let me know.
*Horses listed in brackets are for added coverage if wanted and for exotics.
For races where I only have one or two selections I usually like to KEY the top choice with the second choice and an outside for trifectas.
When I have three horses selected in a Pick 4 or Pick 5 consider them for Trifecta boxes and for superfecta boxes use the 3 selections with the highest priced horse with good form or top tier jockeys riding, especially if they give a price. Rolling Pick 3 and doubles using selections.

“The grace of God is found between the saddle and the ground.”
