A big day of racing with 11 compact fields. There are some nice value plays today.
Value Play of the Day:
Race 6: Very Irish and not because of the name! Well a little bit! Beat a weak field at Los Al BUT this owner/trainer horse scored that 1st career victory last out with the blinkers coming off. Lightbulb moment for this horse? The 20-1 price says yes to me. 6 of 11 times this race was won by horses over 5-1, 2 of 11 were 10-1 or more. ‘Irish also has the top closing kick by a country mile as well. Much to like.
Value Plays for Today:.
Race 1: Catbernay makes the 3rd start off the layoff and comes in with a bullet work this week. Last out going shorter this horse faded late. If the horse that ran at Santa Anita shows up today we are going to love this 15-1 price!
Race 4: Anitanewmercedes in a race ripe for an upset moves back to dirt after doing very well on both turf and the all-weather (2 wins 2 seconds).
Race 7: D’s Lovely Sophia broke badly last out going longer at Santa Anita and was
10 lengths back into the turn before unleashing a huge late drive to miss by less than a length and pass the winner on the gallop out. A clean break and I can see Pyfer sitting just off the pace and rocketing home at a price. Top class in this field, top closing kick and as much speed at the favorites I hope we get this great price!
Race 10: Vertical Threat 1st start since November has the top speed and top closing kick in this race. He won here last summer as well. Upset special.
Race 11: Trevor T last raced here at Del Mar in October, a victory with Rispoli riding. He rides today for Paddy and that’s enough for me!

Typos happen and I do my best not to make them. Always read through my writeups to make sure the posted numbers are correct. I list Pick 4, Pick 5 selections and also a listing of all plays for each race. If there are any differences, please let me know.
*Horses listed in brackets are for added coverage if wanted and for exotics.
For races where I only have one or two selections I usually like to KEY the top choice with the second choice and an outside for trifectas.
When I have three horses selected in a Pick 4 or Pick 5 consider them for Trifecta boxes and for superfecta boxes use the 3 selections with the highest priced horse with good form or top tier jockeys riding, especially if they give a price. Rolling Pick 3 and doubles using selections.

“The grace of God is found between the saddle and the ground.”
