We have races competitive races on today’s card and some longshots I really like. Race 3 and race 7 are the best betting races on the card today.
If you are going to Del Mar this summer be sure to stop by and say Hi. I will be hosting the Newcomers Seminar every Friday and Sunday inside the main gate.
UNION TRIBUNE VALUE PLAY OF THE DAY:
Third race. No. 2, Call You Tomorrow (9/2)
Race three looks to be the best value race on today’s card, a six furlong starter allowance on dirt. First up we have Call You Tomorrow who was claimed off a win in June by trainer Brian Koriner. Koriner has put in five sharp works in a row and now races the horse protected from a claim today. These workouts are not claim bait. They look like the real deal and include three best of the day works. Koriner is winning 21% third off the layoff and the 9/2 morning price looks like great value in this race. I am also betting on The White Shadow, an Andrew Lerner horse making the 2nd start since last December. As we have gone over before, trainer Lerner has been on a hot streak this year winning 31% of his races. He is winning 29% for a big profit when he starts horses off a long break like today. Jockey Rueben Fuentes is winning 36% of his races for this trainer. The horse also races protected today. The question for us is does that mean the horse is live and they want the easy paycheck or does the horse need a race. The 15-1 or more morning line price is too good to ignore so let’s gamble and see. This is an excellent betting race. I will be looking to do win/place bets on both horses as well as include them in exotic bets using Big Barrel No.3 and Baby Gronk, No. 9.
Pick 5 I need a single is race
Pick 4 I need a single is in race – none
Longshots of the Day:
Race 2: Gate Speed has Desormeaux stay here versus others in the race including the likely post time favorite and he is winning 50% for trainer Glatt. When Kent rides it means it’s go time. Stretches out with early speed and a sharp work.
Race 7: Honos Man. When Desormeaux rides in the last race of the card I pay attention. When he rides the last race and its for trainer Hess I really pay attention especially if its a horse shipping in from back East for the bonus money and is racing protected. The horse tried turf for the 1st time in June at Churchill and won easily. They immediately shipped to California to race here at Del Mar. Kent wins 29% for Hess and 6-1 is excellent value.

*Horses listed in brackets are for added coverage if wanted and for exotics.
For races where I only have one or two selections I usually like to KEY the top choice with the second choice and an outside for trifectas.
When I have three horses selected in a Pick 4 or Pick 5 consider them for Trifecta boxes and for superfecta boxes use the 3 selections with the highest priced horse with good form or top tier jockeys riding, especially if they give a price. Rolling Pick 3 and doubles using selections.
