07-25-2019 Del Mar Full Card

We hit the Late Pick 4 yesterday and while it was chalky our $13.50 bet thanks to a scratch paid us a nice $179. We have 7 races again today and this was a card I spent a lot of time trying to narrow down selections – that usually means look for some big prices today!

If you are going to Del Mar this summer be sure to stop by and say Hi. I will be hosting the Newcomers Seminar every Friday and Sunday inside the main gate.

UNION TRIBUNE VALUE PLAY OF THE DAY:

Seventh race. No. 9. Lostinthemoment (10-1)

Lostinthemoment is shipping in today for the “ship and win” bonus money for trainer Michael Puhich with Drayden Van Dyke riding, a tandem who won on opening day. The horse broke in the air in the debut race at Emerald Downs and raced around the track with no chance but did put in a late rally. Lostinthemoment came back with a sharp workout and then shipped out to Del Mar to train. This trainer is winning 25% shipping and they are risking the horse today for a $50k claim despite costing $85k. Placed for the upset win and ship and win bonus money at a great 10-1 value.

Pick 4/5 I need a single is race  – none wide open card today

Longshots of the Day:

Race 1: Brace For Impact is a Bruce Headley first-timer and he is winning 21% debuting in maiden special weights and 19% 1st time start and he has a positive ROI with these. They put Maldonado on so we know the tactic – gate to wire at 15-1 or more

Race 4: Winter Gold is a 1st time Irish horse in the US so you know I am using especially as it last raced where I grew up! 1st time Lasix, 1st time turf.

Race 6: Lucky Ms Jones is a Garcia/Baltas horse who are winning 33%. Baltas is 28% winner last race and when these two win its on longshots at this price.

*Horses listed in brackets are for added coverage if wanted and for exotics.

For races where I only have one or two selections I usually like to KEY the top choice  with the second choice and an outside for trifectas.

When I have three horses selected in a Pick 4 or Pick 5 consider them for Trifecta boxes and for superfecta boxes use the 3 selections with the highest priced horse with good form or top tier jockeys riding, especially if they give a price. Rolling Pick 3 and doubles using selections.

“Bíonn grásta Dé idir an dialait agus an talamh.”

“The grace of God is found between the saddle and the ground.”
