07-18-2018 Del Mar Opening Day

We closed the Santa Anita meet on a very nice winning streak ending with a big $2,863 Pick 5 score closing day for our meager $48 bet. Del Mar is where the longshots come in quite often and the payouts can be huge. Del Mar is the social track in the U.S where owners and trainers come to be seen in the winning circle. EVERY horse has a chance at Del Mar. My service has landed on some very big wins at Del Mar over the last few summers and we will look to do the same again this year! Both my tickets today I have added in a single to help make tickets smaller for those of you on tight budgets! Have fun as we start off another great meet at Del Mar!

Each and every day I will have a FREE Late Pick 4 ticket posted on the Del Mar handicapping page. For my Pick 5, longshots and best bets as well as a more in-dept Pick 4 ticket be sure to check out my site. My opening week sale ends on Sunday!

If you are at Del Mar this summer be sure to stop by the Newcomers Seminar and say hello as I will be hosting it each Sunday one hour before the first race at the main entrance.

Race 8 is won by horses over 5-1 60% of the time and 40% of that is over 10-1

Pick 5 I need a single is in race 4 Flying to the Line who ran a little green in her debut, a second place after being forced out wide by the winner. Best speed in this race with an apprentice jockey who is one to watch at the meet

Pick 4 I need a single is in race 9, Blame Joe. He won his last race off a one year break surging into the wire and winning by 10 lengths. Moving up in class and 2nd start off the bench for a trainer who wins 24%. Based on that last race the distance looks to be no issues

Longshots of the Day:

Race 1: Carville, he won his last race at Golden Gate, rises in class for a trainer winning 56% repeat claim, 28% in 2018, 32% winner last race and this horse had the highest speed last out. The inside post could be speed friendly today as well and we get 8-1 or more. Trainer/owner family, ships in with jockey to look good! Also, this horse is 5-2-1 at the distance and this race is won by horses over 5-1 a nice 31%. Oh that last win race also saw 3 horses behind him win next out! In fact singling this horse and using all the horses in the next 4 legs makes the Pick 5 $16 as a backup.

Race 3: Burn Me Twice is 2 for 4 at Del Mar winning both summer races last August, dropping in class, 1st start since May for a trainer 23% off the bench

Race 6: Desert General, when Prat rides a longshot in a race he had options on and its a big price and he won on it previously we look closer! Won going a mile in May under Prat, faded on turf next out and hit the bench. Back on dirt and Prat is back on

Race 7: Barbadolla, Maldonado is 29% for D’ Amato for a dam with 2 winners from 2 starters and bloodlines that scream winner, Sharp workout and a perfect 8-1 price

Race 8: Restrainedvengence, the strategy here will be to try a gate to wire move. It worked previously and we have some bullet speed works in the last 2 weeks and a giant price in a race that is won by longshots 60% of the time.

Horses listed in brackets are for added coverage if wanted and for exotics.

For races where I only have one or two selections I usually like to KEY the top choice  with the second choice and an outside for trifectas.

When I have three horses selected in a Pick 4 or Pick 5 consider them for Trifecta boxes and for superfecta boxes use the 3 selections with the highest priced horse with good form or top tier jockeys riding, especially if they give a price. Rolling Pick 3 and doubles using selections.
