It was almost a monster day on Sunday as my only longshot of the day Ippodamia’s Girl cruised gate to wire at a giant 21-1 price. We hit the last three price horses in the Pick 4 sequence but alas, as is usually the case, the can’t lose Baffert odds on horse did us in. We have 8 races for the Friday card and it is a very, very tough card that even with price horses winning is unlikely to pay large. It’s also that time of the year for the 4 ½ furlong baby races.
Pick 4 I need a single is in race – none today
Pick 5 I need a single is in race 4 Persephone because we need a single to make this Pick 5 ticket manageable. Prat rides after winning last out despite a bad start. Either the favorite or anyone!
Longshots of the Day:
Race 1: Will Dancer. In this race all have a chance. Trainer Truman is 0 for 14 at the meet but he is 43% 1st start, 22% off the bench. Tries turf for the 1st time with turf winning up and down the bloodlines. The horse cost $300k and was thrown away by trainer Chad Brown so there are issues but we get the class rise and risk for a tag today so this is likely as live as the horse will be
Race 6: Be Lifted Up is ridden by Flavian Prat for trainer Jeff Mullins. Mullins is winning 33% second time routing like today. This is the 2nd start off the layoff and we have a sharp workout in preparation. The horse was steadied early in the last race before running on late and sets up perfect for the race profile today. 8-1 morning is a great value for a Prat horse and again this is an Allowance race with the horse being protected in a sign of optimism. These Allowance races have been yielding some nice longshot prices lately.
Race 8: Power Down is a 1st time Irish horse from Ellis and Talamo rides so automatically two big “must use” alerts go off! 1st start since last summer I wish we were getting a better price!
Today’s Race 5 Late Pick 4 will cost $24 depending on singles with horses listed in preference.
Today’s Race 1 Early Pick 5 will cost $48 with horses listed in preference
All or 6,2,4,7,3
Horses listed in brackets are for added coverage if wanted and for exotics.
For races where I only have one or two selections I usually like to KEY the top choice with the second choice and an outside for trifectas.
When I have three horses selected in a Pick 4 or Pick 5 consider them for Trifecta boxes and for superfecta boxes use the 3 selections with the highest priced horse with good form or top tier jockeys riding, especially if they give a price. Rolling Pick 3 and doubles using selections.
Irish horse racing saying –
“Bíonn grásta Dé idir an dialait agus an talamh.”
“The grace of God is found between the saddle and the ground.”
