04-04-2024 Santa Anita Full Card

Welcome back to the Great Race Place as we get a makeup day of Thursday racing due to last weekend’s storm. We have 9 races today including the Grade 3 American Stakes and the return of Gold Phoenix!

Observation – workout times seem to be very fast the 1st few days of the new training track – something to keep an eye on if it’s an anomaly or shows up in race results.

Longshot/Value Plays of the Day:

Race 1: Sabres  – in a wide open spread as much as you can afford race! Early speed last time going a mile and tired late the cutback today, adds Lasix and blinkers can only help.

Race 5: Sakura Flavor – Rispoli takes his turn and is the right price.

Race 6: Sharp Ride – won the debut last year with one of the coldest jockeys then hit the bench. Nothing but bullet works, racing protected.

Race 7: Adaay In Asia one of 4 D’Amato horses in here. 46 second work on Sunday.

Race 9: Gold Phoenix – I will be looking to key Gold on top of some prices in a trifecta – 7,10,1,4,5)

Today’s Race 1 50 cent Early Pick 5 will cost $72 with horses listed in preference

Race 8:  3,4,1

Race 9:  3 (7,10,1,4,5) ‘Gold, which I’m an owner in, even though this is a “prep” race, is training WOW. If he shows up the race is over.

Selections for each race with horses listed in preference

Race 1:  4,9,10,6

Race 2:  6,3

Race 3:  7,2,6

Race 4:  7,3

Typos happen and I do my best not to make them. Always read through my writeups to make sure the posted numbers are correct. I list Pick 4, Pick 5 selections and also a listing of all plays for each race. If there are any differences, please let me know.

*Horses listed in brackets are for added coverage if wanted and for exotics.

For races where I only have one or two selections I usually like to KEY the top choice  with the second choice and an outsider for trifectas.

When I have three horses selected in a Pick 4 or Pick 5 consider them for Trifecta boxes and for superfecta boxes use the 3 selections with the highest priced horse with good form or top tier jockeys riding, especially if they give a price. Rolling Pick 3 and doubles using selections.

Irish horse racing saying –

“Bíonn grásta Dé idir an dialait agus an talamh.”

“The grace of God is found between the saddle and the ground.”
