A noon start today for 9 races with mostly small fields. New Year’s Day saw us run 4 of 5 in the Pick 5 and 3 of 4 in the Pick 4. Almost but no cigar.

Pick 5 single is in race 4 Diosa and the reason being the 2nd choice in here was ridden by Cedillo the last 4 races and he lands on this horse for Hess whom he is winning 27% for. He had his choices and lands here on a horse making the 1st start since April. The horse is dropped multiple classes. They are willing to risk for a claim and placed the horse for the purse money.

Pick 4 single is in race – none

Value Plays of the Day:

Race 3: Avalon Ride is 1 for 1 here at Santa Anita and last out at a mile ran a closing 4th, missing by less than two lengths. On the gallop out the horse was in front. The 6-1 morning line is great value for us. The favorite in this race Rose Dunn ran 2nd in the same race.

Race 5: Harper’s Gallop won last out at this distance on dirt by 12 lengths at Del Mar. In the race prior the horse was leading on turf into the stretch before the saddle slipper off and prior to that on dirt at the distance ran 2nd. Point is the horse likes to be on the lead and win and always fires a big shot. 8-1 is great.

For races where I only have one or two selections I usually like to KEY the top choice  with the second choice and an outside for trifectas.

When I have three horses selected in a Pick 4 or Pick 5 consider them for Trifecta boxes and for superfecta boxes use the 3 selections with the highest priced horse with good form or top tier jockeys riding, especially if they give a price. Rolling Pick 3 and doubles using selections.
