Four of of five for the third day in a row at Santa Anita for us in the Pick 5! Yet again our singles of the day did their job returning some nice doubles and pick 3 wins as well as the early pick 4. We are right there every day thus far at the meet so let’s keep the ball rolling today! My emphasis is going to continue to be on the Pick 5 where the pays have been way better of late. This is an extremely hard card today both in the Pick 5 and Pick 4. I am including ALL horses that have a chance and I did my best to narrow down the tickets to more reasonable sizes. Tough card today but that usually means big pays!.
Race 3 has a 34% win rate for horses over 5-1
Pick 4 I need a single is race 8 Cordiality who is dropping in class today, has the top speed in the race. Being risked for the claim today they are seeking the win payout
Pick 5 I need a single is race 2 Red Shelby from Miller with Fig riding and they are 28%. Top speed in the race dropping in class and we get a sharp workout. 1st start since September Miller is 19% and he is 18% turf to dirt and 26% dropping into claiming races. He knows where to spot them.
Longshots of the Day:
Race 1: Impetu is 1 for 2 on the Hillside and put in a sharp work last weeks. Cuts back from two route races and that is always a great angle on the Hill we get 12-1 or more
Race 4: Cedars of Lebanon is a 2nd time Irish starter who switches to the aggressive Baze today and drops in class for the red hot O’Neill stable. They thought enough about this horse to debut in a G1 last month but she was steadied and then forced out losing all hope turning into the stretch as she was winding up. The class of the field we get a great price in a race the favorite has never won from 13 starts and horses over 5-1 win 53% of the time. In this same race Thriving with Prat riding had a similar bad trip in the same race steadied when about to let loose in the stretch and is 8-1
Race 5: Ronton picks up Rosario off a win last out. The horse is 2-3 from 5 starts at the distance and this 8-1 morning line despite the jump in class looks like a steal. Trainer is winning 24% claim repeat
Race 6: Blue Moonrise is the “other” Baffert with Talamo riding. She cost $500k and we are getting 5-1 or more because of the favorite. Running uncoupled this would be the 5/2 fav and there are some nice workouts just as good as the other choices
Today’s Race 7 Late Pick 4 will cost $12 depending on singles with horses listed in preference.
Today’s Race 1 Early Pick 5 will cost $36 with horses listed in preference
Today’s Race 6 Late Pick 5 will cost $36 with horses listed in preference
Horses listed in brackets are for added coverage if wanted and for exotics.
For races where I only have one or two selections I usually like to KEY the top choice with the second choice and an outside for trifectas.
When I have three horses selected in a Pick 4 or Pick 5 consider them for Trifecta boxes and for superfecta boxes use the 3 selections with the highest priced horse with good form or top tier jockeys riding, especially if they give a price. Rolling Pick 3 and doubles using selections.
Irish horse racing saying –
“Bíonn grásta Dé idir an dialait agus an talamh.”
“The grace of God is found between the saddle and the ground.”
