Santa Anita 06-26-2015

06-26-2015

Well I got knocked out of the Pick 4 yesterday but as I do many times when that happens I used my selections in a superfecta box in the final race. It has been a strategy that has worked many times before but none like yesterday! My three selections in the last race were 2,5,8. I then used the highest priced horse named for the super and voila, the 10 c superfecta pays $5,973! Ya gotta love the Hillside course for crazy priced outsiders!

There is a Pick 6 carryover today and the sequence again looks pretty hard.

I will continue to post my picks for Los Al and Del Mar on my website once the Santa Anita meet is over so be sure to stop on by!

The Pick 4 begins in race #5 today on the Hillside course. The morning line favorite is #8 Perfectly Majestic from the Desormeax/Hess tandem who have been uncharacteristically ICE cold at the meet. 2-1 based on his past 2 races is a bit short but I will use. The deserving favorite is #3 Alamo who has a second on dirt in April and second on the Hillside last month. That plus a sharp workout last week with Prat riding looks good. Now this is the downhill and anything can happen as we saw yesterday! #7 Bollywood, without sugar coating things, has looked like a horse that kids will be riding at the San Diego Fair soon, pretty rare for a $700k purchase from Baffert. He switches to turf today. A try anything approach from the triple crown winner BUT do not discount anything he does. Pedroza rode last time when 29-1 but main guy Garcia rides back today. Baffert is 37% on this type of move as well. We have had a couple of winners from him this year switching to turf and price horses seem to be dominating these past few days and this race is won by the fav only 21% and by horses 5-1 or more 50% of the time from 28 races.

*** UPDATE – big scratches here changing my pick ideas with #3 and #7 scratching. I will now add #1 Homer Matt on the jockey upgrade to Baze and a sharp workout.

I will also add #4 Tirpitz who ran behind Alamo last out and this trainer is 53% second on the turf.

We get a Maiden Special Weight in race 6 at five furlongs. #10 True Brilliance was second behind a next out winner on a wet track. Bejarano and Hollendorfer team up on #9 Viviendo El Sueno. I am not using as I am totally unimpressed with the Dorf firsters lately and if he beats me he beats me. Use however if you want extra coverage. Brocklebank brings us #3 Scatastic who was second in his debut as the fav and has posted two sharp workouts since. I also want to use a firster here so I will go with #6 Speedin With Eddie from a productive jockey/trainer plus his siblings are tearing it up.

Back to the Hillside we go in race #7. #2 Rocket Heat has been 1st or second in his last 4 races and tries turf today with Talamo riding but rising in class. I’ll use but I need more coverage. Bejarano and Glatt who are 2 for 4 team up on #3 Red Button who makes his first start since December. Gelded, rested and off to the winners circle? This race is won by a priced horse 5-1 or more 42% of the time. Miller races two horses in here, #8 Jazzy Josh and #11 Lovenseek. I am going to side with Lovenseek for a few reasons. We get 12-1! Baze rides. Sharp workout last week. Bejarano also hopped off Jazzy Josh to ride Red Button. One negative is the rise in class on the hillside.

In the final race #1 West Coast Storm (we need some big ones here!) has two seconds on dirt and a 6th with the last race seeing her well clear of third. 8/5 morning line appears too low but I will use.  #4 Chicago Angle has run third in her last two races and today picks up Baze plus she posted a sharp workout last week. She is also a closer and that could come in handy here today chasing down the #1 West Coast Storm who got caught last out in the stretch. #2 Valentine’s Reward is always in the mix and drops big today for a trainer winning 33% on drops like this.
